Scientist - "My findings mean nothing when taken out of context."
Media the next day - "Scientist says his 'findings mean nothing!' "
That sums up this memo. No context.

i hope hollywood helps make her the democratic nominee.
she sounds like she’s testing out the waters.
good luck ms. winfrey.
Oprah isn't qualified. But then again......the bar for qualifications has been severely lowered recently. So by that standard, she is as qualified as the current president.
But i would rather not make it the new norm, and have a competent and experienced diplomat/governor in the position of running our country.
I'm am sort of baffled by the video Cofty posted to be honest. Ben Shapiros commentary is pretty hackish. For the record, Oprah has stated that she is not interested in running for president. The fact she has known people like Harvey Weinstein and Donald Trump in her professional life, makes her somehow culpable in their behavior and permissive of their actions? Not without a ton of conspiracy theory and assumption.
That seems below the standard for reasonableness. I see these photos everywhere.....the right being materially desperate to discredit someone eloquently speaking the truth to people that think the current president is a dangerous slob, despite the fact hat she has no political aspirations.
If she developes them, then let her run for a lower house or something to build up to this.
Since the bar has been lowered this far however......I can't say she wouldn't be a tempting vote opposite the current occupant of the white house. Hell I'd vote for the reanimated corpse of Cofty over Trump.
At least he would value brains.
some of my old jw friends are sickly and getting on in age.
so far, i’ve only gone to my mother’s memorial and have avoided the kingdom hall altogether.... your thoughts please?.
I have several times. For the family, and people I care about. It was cringeworthy sure......but I find if I make sure I stay above the fray.....that nobody really senses the need to challenge me.
despite decades of the feminist movement, watchtower's attitude of woman being inferior has changed little, with pauline sexism justified as inspired, on the basis that women are lesser emotionally, intellectually and physically.
jehovah's witnesses seem to accept this with little resistance.
is there anything about the #metoo movement that may wake followers up?
JWfacts,
I was thinking something similar. the #metoo is one component, but there is definitly something int he zeitgeist that I think will hold up past just this moment in time. I think overall, women may feel more empowered, and men more......I guess.......concerned with liability? (sad but true).
But I don't think it translates to a womans role in the religion. They will roll out something about having clearly defined roles and "dignifying" women has ALWAYS been what they are about.
"Why women are a large army for Jehovah. They usually take the lead in our preaching and teaching work! They are to be commended as fellow workers along side their male counterparts. We value our sisters immensely! What a difference from the world, where women have been repeatedly harassed and powerful men brought to bear for not recognizing the capable woman."
^^^^^Some BS like that.
i hope hollywood helps make her the democratic nominee.

If she has political aspirations, she should serve in a lower capacity first. Having someone in that position without knowledge of diplomacy, international norms, and governing experience........lets just say that is already a failed experiment.
I think she isn't qualified to be President, as eloquent and well meaning as she seems. She agrees....and says she does not have political aspirations.
maybe some of you remember me, maybe not.
for general information i am now 19 years old, and living by myself.
for the past 1 year (more like 1.5 years) i have been quietly fading out of the hypocrisy of this organization, but since i still live in the town i grew up in it has been hard, and filled with different challenges.
May I ask.......would your disfellowsipped friends do the same? If its the same elder body on their case.....you could bet dollars to donuts that they are going to tell those gys they can't reinstated for associating with YOU too. Just something to breach with them. Would your parents speak to you if you were disfellowshipped?
If you don't care about being DF'd (like really don't care), then record it, and have a bit of sport. There is nothing in the bible that suggests speaking with someone who has been disfellowshipped or marked is a disfellowshipping offense. Where is the scriptural backing?
Also, the flock book says if someone is "not identified as one of JW's by the community" then there is no reason to go after them. Then again.....that book contradicts itself all of the time.
Or.....if you don't care about meeting up with them, but don't want to be disfellowshipped, tell them that you haven't been identifying as a JW in the community, and there is no reason to disfellowship you. You left respectfully, through the back door, for "matters of conscience" that you feel no need to discuss so as not to affect their faith negatively. This is a statement I stick with, and have had much success with. Note......I am not disfellowshipped. Explain ot them there is no reason to harrass you and reach this far into your life to disrupt your relationship with your family, when you have simply left. I believe that there is a portion of the ARC video where Geoffrey Jackson says they do not do such a thing. Maybe have it qued up on the I pad?
I would have all of this for sport to be honest. I can't wait for some brothers to come to my door, or bring the CO by.......(they just don't.......I wonder why?) :)
so...while chatting with my ultra "spiritual elder" father on the phone this afternoon, i couldn't resist using that line!.
i had sent him that video of the recent convention showing brothers and sisters dancing to the "kingdom song" and waving their illuminated phones and arms in the air like some sort of revival church concert.
(perhaps someone can post that link to that thread again here?).
It sounded like the beginning to a bad sitcom that song.
so these countries roughly constitute europe.. here's how well they did in 2017 vs 2016:.
2017 peak pubs.
2016 peak pubs.
"peak pubs" is really not an accurate way to even look at this. What I find most interesting, is that they completely abandon the avg publishers stat by country.
It can't be good.
my brother has been talking about the earth being flat and some big conspiracy going on to make people beieve otherwise.
what are people's thoughts on this?.
Flat Earth is God-level trolling.
This is so true. I am always amazed at the amount of time and effort this must cost those dedicated to it. they could easily have gotten a degree or understood astronomy and physics "for real" with just a percentage of the trolling dedication. I feel like there is a sociology study somewhere in here.
There is something very odd about the people that can "anything can happen" just about any event or theory. A friend told me the other day he doesn't believe North Korea is all that bad specifically because the media says it is. My response is that "thousands have escaped and have similar stories, hundreds of thousands of people from various countries observe the rouge state n various ways because they are considered dangerous, reporters have been in and out and gotted snapshots of life there telling the story.......you are suggesting that all of these fine people are in ona big joke, and the media has some sort of vested interest in the outcome. You believe this why?"
Response: "Well I just don't think that things are always as they seem".
**facepalm**
just spent 8 hours in a 1 day elders school last weekend.
clarification given: "moving forward any elder, ms, or pioneer who themselves or someone under their roof enrolls in higher education, may no longer qualify for privileges in the congregation.
their qualifications will have to be reviewed by their boe.".
There seems to be a double standard here depending on the country. I can speak for the US specifically, because here is where I grew up. To varying degrees, higher education is frowned upon. I was a good teenage JW, who told the counselor (much to her chagrin), that I was not going to go to college. I was doing the right thing.
Now I have friends in the UK and Sweden. They went to University no problem. No real issue. It was almost expected. Could it be because university in these places is paid for by the state, sort of like k-12 here in the US?
That is really the only reason for it that i can come up with.
